Paper Abstract:      Although online activities continue to play an important role in modern societies, online users’ concerns for privacy still inhibit the development of e-business. An important, yet unexplored question is: whether users differ in their privacy concerns on different Websites? We extended Smith et al’s (1996) work and compared consumers’ privacy concerns on two types of Website: social-networking (Facebook.com) and transactional (Taiwanese version of eBay—Ruten.com). Initial results from a convenient sample in Taiwan demonstrated that users’ perception of privacy concerns differ in error, unauthorized secondary use and improper access, but not in information collection. Further theoretical and practical implications are also discussed.
